Overview — Afternoon General English - 12 hours a week

This 4-day General English course in the afternoon (Monday to Thursday) is designed for students not preparing for a formal exam. It develops all key English skills, including speaking, listening, writing, reading, as well as vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, through eal life topics and practical activities. This unique programme helps you communicate with real people in authentic social settings, including Social Fridays, our weekly extracurricular sessions designed to help practise outside the classroom, in the real world.

Course Details

  • Week 1: Learn how to use the verb be and possessive adjectives – Learn days of the weeks and numbers. Learn language to use in the classroom

  • Week 2: Learn articles, commonly used adjectives and imperatives – Learn common nouns, and modifiers for adjectives. Learn to talk about your feelings

  • Week 3: Learn how to use the present simple and word order in question forms – Learn some verb phrases and question words. Learn how to talk about jobs and careers

  • Week 4: Learn prepositions of time and place – Learn adverbs and expressions of frequency. Learn how to talk about family and everyday activities

  • Week 5: Learn how to use can / can’t and the present continuous – Learn some more verb phrases. Learn how to discuss the weather and the seasons

  • Week 6: Learn how to use like + verb-ing – Learn the date and ordinal numbers. Learn how to discuss music

  • Week 7: Learn how to use the past simple with regular and irregular verbs – Learn past time expressions. Learn how to talk about a past event

  • Week 8: Learn how to use there is / there are / there was / there were – Learn common vocabulary for the house, preposition of place and movement. Learn to discuss a building and its furniture

  • Week 9: Learn countable/uncountable nouns and quantifiers – Learn how to use comparative adjectives. Learn how to discuss food and storage

  • Week 10: Learn superlative adjectives and be going to (plans & predictions) – Learn how to discuss places and buildings and some common verb phrases. Learn how to talk about holidays and holiday plans

  • Week 11: Learn how to use adverbs and verb + to + infinitive – Learn common adverbs and verbs that take the infinitive. Learn to discuss the internet and how we use it

  • Week 12: Learn how to use the present perfect – Learn irregular past participles. Learn how to discuss recent events using the present perfect

  • Minimum age: 16 years old

  • Lessons:  4 days a week.

  • Timetable: Monday - Thursday 14:15 - 17:30 

  • Hours per week: 12

  • Extracurricular activities: take place every Friday (Social Fridays)

  • Class size: maximum 15 students

  • Coursebook: first coursebook included in price, any other books cost £40
